Interstate 95, the most significant highway on the U.S. East Coast, is a major thoroughfare for Maryland. Connecting the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas, it has four distinct segments within the state: 27 miles of the Washington area's Capital Beltway with Interstate 495, a segment between the Capital and Baltimore beltways, one through Baltimore itself, and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway, running from the eastern edge of Baltimore to the Delaware line. I-95 has tolls at the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore as well as the Cecil County side of the Tydings Bridge over the Susquehanna River. No part of I-95 within Maryland is less than three lanes in each direction, and seven miles of it between east Baltimore and White Marsh contain express lanes in the median.
